Research: Comm IC

Technology » Comm IC

The Communication Integrated Semiconductor (Comm IC) space consists of companies such as BRCM, EXAR, MRVL, NETL, ATHR, and LSI that deal with providing chips for various communications market segments. Many of these segments, such as Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, WLAN, and cellular, are fast-growing markets. Several of these companies, such as MRVL and LSI (which is acquiring Agere) are also in the storage chip market and are synergistic with Caris’ coverage of the storage sector. Big picture drivers for growth in the communications IC space include triple play, IPTV, 3G, and video over internet. Over the next few years, we see the various CommIC players looking to build out scale (much through acquisitions) in order to better compete.
