Research: Healthcare IT
Health Care » Healthcare IT
The US health IT market, which had 2005 sales of $16.4B, is expected to reach $18.5B in 2006 and could nearly double by 2011, according to a new report from BCC Research. It is our view that the proper deployment of information technology (IT) can remove significant costs out of our healthcare system, while simultaneously improving quality of care. Though not a panacea, we have witnessed significant technological advances from companies that develop electronic medical records, e-prescribing, bar-coding, computerized physician order entry (CPOE), digital imaging and other clinical information systems designed to streamline care and improve patient safety. In addition to market forces, the government has made a stance advocating the implementation of electronic health records for every American within ten years. For these reasons, the health care IT sector has proven to be a lucrative investment area over the years, with standouts including Omnicell, TriZetto, Allscripts, Quality Systems and several others. We expect fundamentals to only improve for the rest of the decade.
